Local conditions, safety and rules

Wind and water conditions

In the north of the lake, thermal winds can quickly build waves. Set off early, stay near the agreed shore and do not cross without suitable guidance and equipment. On the day of your outing at Lake Garda, check the forecast, water conditions and local restrictions. Follow the operator's instructions and stay within the route approved for Riva del Garda or Limone sul Garda. On the Veneto shore only, Order 13522/2026 applies from 15 May to 15 October: canoes and SUPs must stay within 100 m of shore in daylight; SUP requires calm water and no wind. Do not apply this rule to the Lombardy or Trentino shores. Check Articles 7 and 8 for exclusions, equipment and launching.
