Wind and water conditions
Local points to watch: swimmers, wind and gusts, the Meltemi wind, long distances and crossings. On the day of your outing at Schinias Beach, check the forecast, water conditions and local restrictions. Before setting out, check access and the limits applicable to your craft with the competent authority; this guide does not certify a navigable route. Wear a suitable buoyancy aid. When the fire risk reaches category 4 or 5, vehicle traffic and visitors are prohibited in both the pine forest and the beach of Schinias–Marathon National Park. Check the official daily alert before travelling. Greek sea-use rules (kayak, SUP): stay within 500 m of the coast, operate only between sunrise and sunset, and wear an individual lifejacket. Use is prohibited in adverse weather; private use is also prohibited in reduced visibility or winds above 5 Beaufort (38 km/h), subject to stricter specific rules. Lower wind speeds do not guarantee safety. These rules do not establish permission to launch locally.
