Wind and water conditions
Local points to watch: boat traffic, caves and rock cavities, open-sea exposure, long distances and crossings. On the day of your outing at Kleftiko — caves, check the forecast, water conditions and local restrictions. Wear a suitable buoyancy aid. Check navigation limits with the relevant authority; this guide does not establish an approved route. At Kleftiko, FEK 6499/B/2023 prohibits all craft, including non-motorised craft, from approaching, navigating or anchoring within 25 m of the foot of the cliffs and islets in the area mapped by the order. Swimming in that zone is prohibited year-round. Do not enter caves within this boundary; confirm its limits and any amendments with the Milos port authority. Greek sea-use rules (kayak): stay within 500 m of the coast, operate only between sunrise and sunset, and wear an individual lifejacket. Use is prohibited in adverse weather; private use is also prohibited in reduced visibility or winds above 5 Beaufort (38 km/h), subject to stricter specific rules. Lower wind speeds do not guarantee safety. These rules do not establish permission to launch locally.
